Understanding PPI

What Exactly Is PPI?

Payment Protection Insurance (PPI) was designed to cover repayments on credit agreements such as loans, mortgages, credit cards and store cards, in the event of accident, sickness or unemployment.

Sold correctly, PPI can be a useful product but all too often this was not the case, resulting in lenders collectively repaying in excess of 21 Billon in mis-sold PPI so far; a bill which is set to increase further still according to the consumer magazine, Which?

Millions of PPI Policies Mis-Sold

Millions of PPI policies have been mis-sold across the UK and for varied reasons. In many instances, customers were sold products that they didn’t need or could never use.

For example, policies were sold to people with pre-existing medical conditions and to others who weren’t eligible, such as the self-employed, unemployed and even pensioners. In many other cases, PPI was added without people even being aware of it.
